MHI Roofing in Pittsburgh, PA

Windows are an essential part of any home.  They let natural light into your home, and during the warmer months you can use them to ventilate your home in an effort to keep it cool, and vice versa in the winter. However, they don’t last forever, and having windows that need to be replaced could be costing you money! Check out our guide to see the signs that your windows need to be replaced!

Drafty Windows

The most important, and obvious, sign that your windows are in need of a replacement is when you begin to find cold air seeping in around your windows.  While you may not notice the leaking air unless you are standing right next to your window, if your window is leaking, your home is not as efficient as it could be.  Feeling cold air coming through your windows means that warm air from your home is also escaping out of your windows!  Replacing your drafty windows will help you save money on your energy bill!

Windows Need to be Repainted

If your home has old wooden window frames, they will need to be repainted every few years.  However, vinyl windows are maintenance-free, meaning you will have to spend less time on home maintenance, and more time enjoying the beautiful home you’ve created.  If your windows are beginning to lose their paint and you were thinking about replacing them anyways, save yourself the trouble of repainting your frames and simply replace them with a lower maintenance option!

Noise Pollution

If you find that the outdoors seem to be getting louder and louder, your windows may be to blame.  Old windows begin to lose their seal as they warp and wear away, and not only does this allow a draft in, it can also cause noise pollution in your home.  Replacing your old windows can certainly cut down on noise pollution if they weren’t sitting in their frames correctly anymore.  There are also noise-reduction windows that will help cut down on noise pollution even further if it’s particularly bad in your neighborhood.

Possessions Fading

If you find that your carpet, fabrics, or photographs are washing out, its quite likely that your windows are to blame.  Modern windows block out UV rays that can cause your possessions to lose their color.  If you find that your possessions are washing out, consider replacing your windows with ones that offer glass designed to deflect UV rays away from your home.

Condensation

If you find moisture between the panes of glass in your window, that is another sign that you should replace them.  Condensation in your window suggests that there is an abundance of moisture around the window, and the window isn’t properly sealed either.  Whether your window frame is rotting, or your panes of glass don’t have an airtight seal, finding condensation in your windows is usually a sign that somethings wrong and your windows need to be replaced.  However, if you have a new home, it is still breathing out moisture and finding some condensation in your windows isn’t necessarily a sign that they need to be replaced.
