Residents in West Virginia were warned about an approaching storm that was set to hit the area in the early hours of June 9th. A string of severe storms made its way toward north-central West Virginia, bringing with it some heavy-hitting hail, rainfall, powerful wind speeds, and intense lightning strikes. Several counties were placed on thunderstorm and tornado watch as the storm worsened.
In Morgantown, residents were awoken by the sound of ping pong ball-sized hail slamming into their homes and roofing. Hail of this size can cause some significant dents in your roofing, vehicles, and siding. Some residents were also able to photograph lightning strikes that completely lit up the West Virginia sky.

The intense wind speeds of the storm, which were recorded to be blowing at around 70 mph, caused significant damage to several counties across West Virginia. Several uprooted trees, downed powerlines, and broken lamp poles were reported. While tornado conditions were present, none made landfall. A Putnam County school also suffered significant damage due to flying debris. A home in Stonewood was damaged by a camper that was thrown into its walls by the sheer force of the wind.
The storm made it to Western Pennsylvania, leaving around 2000 residents without power. In West Virginia, about 4000 residents were left to fend for themselves in the dark.
