Even the most durable roof is not completely indestructible. Every once in a while, Mother Nature will throw a nasty storm your way, no matter which part of the country you live in. For this reason, it is very important that you are able to tell whether or not your roof has suffered from storm damage. In today’s post, the roofing experts over at MHI share three signs that may indicate possible storm damage on your roof.
1. Missing or Loose Shingles
This is something that any homeowner can spot. Immediately after a storm, when it’s already safe to come out, it is always a good idea to give your roof a quick inspection. No need to go up there as it may not be completely safe, but grabbing a pair of binoculars and viewing your roof from street level should tell you whether or not strong winds have loosened or blown off any of your shingles.
2. Cracks or Dents
In some parts of the country, it is not unheard of for hailstones the size of golfballs to come crashing down your roof. If a hailstorm has recently ravaged your area, it is always a good idea to call in your roof repair company so they can check for cracks or dents on your shingles.
3. Granule Loss
Some granule loss is common, especially if your asphalt shingle roof is new. However, if you notice a large number of granules in your gutters immediately after a severe weather event, then this is definitely a cause for concern. Granule loss is a result of rub-off during a storm where your shingles flap in the wind and come into contact with other surfaces.
